It's not all whimiscal 'scouseadelica' over in Liverpool you know, no matter what The Coral or The Zutons may have you believe. The aptly named third single from Mersey four piece The Black Velvets is another salvo in their mission to bring old-school rock back to the masses.
As befitting a song called Glamstar, there's a monsterous beat, a meaty guitar riff and a chorus that's made for shouting along to. Paul Carden's vocals are strong and powerful and the song is driven along nicely by that hard, pounding drumbeat.
The only problem is that we've all been here before - a few years ago in fact. After The Darkness and Jet, all this seems a bit passé in 2005 to be honest. They're terrific live though, and hopefully thier upcoming debut album will show some hidden depths.
