After the scattergun approach of Mercury, Bloc Party crank up the guitars and take us deep into the realms of doom-laden bass and big, widescreen beats.
It may even be the closest they'll ever get to doing an 'emo' track, for when the chorus kicks in the sheer weight of sound knocks you sideways, Kele's anguished yelp seeking redemption in a kiss.
Sometimes the band's earnest approach is overpowering in its desire to break through, and there's more of a hint of U2 about the accompanying guitars, but while this might not be as immediate as Flux and the like, it's an undeniably powerful grower - and affecting, too.
