Britpop survivors The Bluetones, having been in the studio since last year, release double A-side Fastboy and Liquid Lips taken from their forthcoming fourth studio album. As Mark Morriss puts it: "Both songs are from the first session recorded for the album in which we've taken a stripped down approach to the songwriting process."

Indeed Fastboy seems pretty bare, with its catchy hook and hump-along vocals. It's a dead cert to chart, and a song inherently suited to a band which takes a festival stage mid-day, rousing a couple of thousand indie kids into hand-clapping, lager-spilling gyration.

Liquid Lips is a poor indie man's attempt at rock'n'roll. It could do with some more overdubs, perhaps some rhythm guitar as well, rather than the stripped-down approach.
