Island records have released this single following what would have been Bob Marley's 60th birthday. Rather than continue to dust off a classic single once more, Slogans is based on an acoustic demo tape reportedly recorded in Miami in 1979. Surfacing only last year, Bob's sons Stephen and Ziggy have lovingly restored this demo, adding guitars by Eric Clapton amongst other things.

What follows is the first 'new' Bob Marley single in over a decade. While it won't receive the same legendary status accorded to One Love et al, this is a brilliant single full of the moments of greatness we expect. The result is a track from beyond the grave that beats the disappointing Beatles rehashes (Free As A Bird, anyone?) without becoming ghoulishly exploitative to Tupac proportions.

This is a great piece of politically motivated reggae with a superb bassline. It's a testimony to the great man that the lyrics still maintain relevance in today's testing times. Not just for fans only, this still knocks spots off any other single I've heard recently. Recommended.
