Def Jam are gearing up for big things to happen to Bobby Valentino, and with good reason - the Slow Down single has already enjoyed a lengthy stay in the US top ten, and the forthcoming album looks set to follow suit. Not only that, he has the soul heritage to go with it, growing up in Atlanta on a diet of Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder and Prince.

This is described as "one for the ladies" in the press release, but I'd wager its heavy kick will be booming out of a few masculine sound systems before the summer is gone. It's a slow yet breezy affair, with our Bobby entreating his lady to slow down a bit in order to get to know her better.

Valentino claims to write one or two songs a week, so it's possible this will be the first of many. He taps into a vibe to please the R Kelly crowd, injecting just about enough soul and orchestration to stand out. It's nothing we haven't heard before, but he does it well.
