This latest single from Have A Nice Day doesn't represent the overall heaviness of the album: it's a stadium rock ballad that everybody expects from a band that has produced so many of them in the past. Obviously their most famous songs are from their creative heyday of the eighties and early nineties and this comes close to that old, familiar sound.
Welcome To Wherever You Are will no doubt be labelled banal and kitsch by hardnosed critics but Bon Jovi have keen fans who know what to expect from the New Jersey band. It's a catchy song with a strong chorus that will certainly raise people's lighters on the forthcoming 2006 UK stadium tour.
Bon Jovi are loved and loathed in equal measures, it all depends where your taste buds lie. You'll never hear majestical songs like Stairway To Heaven from these guys, or even Bat Out Of Hell, but what you will get is good, solid, commercial soft rock. It's predictable, inoffensive and palatable - their menu rarely changes its theme.
