It's hard to tell whether the confident assertion with which the lyrics of this track are delivered is merely a sign of a band who know they're good, or a band who think they're a lot more important than they actually are. Brandon Flowers (The Killers) is a showman, but when he waves his hand around like Morrissey it just seems like he really means what he's singing about.
The Bravery's Sam Endicott has the moves of someone who reckons they're pretty hot, but his vocals don't tend to sound arrogant or overdone. Chris Peck from Boy Kill Boy? It just seems there's a little too much of something.
Musically, the aforementioned bands are most certainly of the category in which Boy Kill Boy fit. They've got that Duran Duran of garage bands feel about them, but on this track it sounds like they're trying too hard to be that band, rather than a band that makes good, honest music. At times it comes off sounding a bit cabaret - and that El Presidente sound is neither big nor clever. But hey, don't look at them that way: maybe it was an honest mistake.
