Taut, Franz-esque guitars? Check. Synths? Check. Plethora of hooks? Check. Blank expressions and arty video? Check. Well, from the evidence put together by the case for the prosecution, one could easily write Boy Kill Boy off as just another band among the wave of '80s electro-rock influenced bands. But looks can be deceiving.
"This is not a movie/Things just ain't the same as your favourite video", singer Chris Peck yelps, in a vocal that makes him sound like the bastard child of Morrissey and Simon LeBon (a rather terrifying prospect), if either had child-bearing capability.
By the time the chorus comes around ("Countdown, countdown, countdown to the disappointment/I'm yours tonight") and you find yourself joining along in the paean to "S-s-s-Suzie", you will realise that you too are hooked. You get the sense that Boy Kill Boy do this kind of thing even better than The Killers do, sounding like the boys from Las Vegas but with more bite, edge and thrill, what with The Killers having all their sense of adventure eroded by wanting to be the next U2.
Exciting stuff, then. A countdown, countdown, countdown to disappointment has never sounded so much fun.
