Broadcast - America's Boy

Two years after the well-received Ha Ha Sound, Birmingham band Broadcast - now just duo Trish Keenan and James Cargill following guitarist Tim Felton's departure - return with the prelude to their third album, Tender Buttons.

Their synth-driven sound and female vocals have brought them many comparisons to Stereolab in the past and the thudding bass and fuzzy electronica of this single will no doubt encourage more of the same.

America's Boy fails to sprinkle the magic dust over you like some of their previous work, does drone on a bit and is repetitive but there are some nice sonic sounds and Keenan's delicate voice to facilitate the listening experience. A product of the excellent Warp label, the album is out mid-September.
