Balls may have been the title of their last album, but here's where The Broken Family Band finally display them. This single precedes new album Hello Love and heralds a much harder direction than in previous times.

More aggressive influences are dominant here. Whilst it would be a shame if this UK based band have completely jettisoned their highly individual indie meets country and western sound this is an intriguing taster of things to come.

It might not grab you as melodically as their previous material, but this session favourite is a brooding tune complemented by a positive message summed up by the band as "stop worrying, stop f***king about and do the right thing". The question is - have they done the right thing by taking the indie shilling? The new album promises a renewed vigour for rocking but will it be done at the expense of the cracking songs that made Balls such a pleasure? Either way on the basis of this track Hello Love is looking to be one of this reviewer's most eagerly awaited albums of the year so far. Maybe it is time that the family is extended.
