Bromheads Jacket have been rather unfortunate in their timing, as they've come along in the wake of the Arctic Monkeys success. Based in Sheffield and specialising in punky guitar tunes that tell stories mean that they've been dismissed in some quarters as mere copyists of Alex Turner and chums.
The ironic thing of course is that they've been around just as long as the Arctics, sing in a southern accent rather than a South Yorkshire one, and have a much heavier sound. Lesley Palafitt is a shart sharp shock of a song (lasting just over 90 seconds), and describes the sort of racist bigot you'll find propping up the bar every night in every provincial town, spouting off on immigration and itching for a punch up. Lead singer Tim Hampton is more Mike Skinner than Turner, and there's more than a touch of The Streets' beery popularism to be heard here.
It's an odd release for a single though, as it's over almost before it's begun. They've also got an absolutely superb song called Poppy Bird in their canon which, if released as a single, would surely make them stars. Until then, expect this to not make any lasting impression beyond the faithful.
