Bronze Age Fox - Dinosaur / Show Me Something More (Bagatelle)
UK release date: 16 February 2004
Bronze Age Fox are a four piece from Bristol, and no, they're not new, they've been together for seven years, having contributed to a small number of indie compilations. At around the time BAF were becoming established, Bristol's urban scene was bustling with its own bizarre drum 'n' bass movement (Portishead, Roni Size), and to a certain degree, its influence on BAF can be seen in their songs.
Dinosaur combines lo-fi synths with dirty distorted guitar to brilliant effect, whilst Show Me Something More races along with a hypnotic bassline, swaggering drums, and slick funk guitar, lightly seasoned with luscious falsetto vocals. Tasty!
BAF sound like a band that are ready to make the transition from underground to mainstream - however it seems they are a few honed skills away yet. Their take on rock sounds fresh, funky, and modern. If ever there was a time for Bronze Age Fox to jump to the fore, it's now, and using this as evidence, it is deserved. Promising stuff.
