Pitched at Fabric's clientele, Bunch of Gurus & Emilia Majello's debut single continues to prove that a basic house beat, a funky bass and a vocoder can together make fine dance music.
Majello, a Colombian-born Italian, is no great shakes as a vocalist, nor is she another screaming diva (praise be). When you've got a vocoder parping all over the vocal track anyway, it makes little difference.
Punk Cake slaps funk and house together and serves up a bustling vibe of sassy, bass-driven club fervour. Vocalist or no vocalist, this would still be an energetic club confection. And so it is.
