It turns out that the exotic name of Mademoiselle
E.B. is, in fact, an alias for Sophie Ellis Bextor. It's a good choice of song for her return
- the new mother has a formidable pop pedigree that
has its roots in Ibiza-type pop such as this - you'll
remember Spiller of course, and their infamous
duel for number one which effectively ruined
Victoria Beckham's singing career.
It's a strong track, with the punchline: "You're
just my good time, you're just my pastime," the winning
element. Sophie trades vocals with a rather less
convincing verse from a Beloved-alike vocalist,
making a play for radio audiences, but the real
potential of the track comes out in the EMP remix,
which adds some trance to the equation for a Balearic
moment.
It looks like the Norwich supporting Bextor could
be making a winning return to the pop world, unlike
her team, who seem to be going in the other
direction.
