Skiffle. Rhymes with piffle. Do you really need to read the rest of the review?
Yes, you do, and so it is with a heavy heart that I remove headphones from ears to tell you that Captain Black (arch enemy of Captain Scarlet, Supermarionation fans), will not be setting any 'boom boxes' alight with their latest single. That is, of course, unless someone is driven to a murderous rage and decides to douse said music player in flammable liquid and spark it up, all the while giggling maniacally.
It's a little sad when a new band set their sights so resoloutely low, but Come On Up To Our House sounds like one of those songs that twelve-year olds learn in their 'big boys book of guitar tunes'. It's so generic that I was almost fooled into thinking that it was some kind of classic. It's not.
There is light in the gutter, though. Rapidamente's southern twang is a lot better; ok, so the nearest these boys have probably got to Mexico is watching From Dusk til Dawn while necking a chilly Sol, but it?s still got a lot more promise than the pretty useless lead track. On the merits of this release, Captain Black better pray they really are immortal, because their frail grasp on morality is going to be put to the test if they keep trying to foist this kind of bland, generic pap on the record-buying public.
