Joy Division chequered indie rock is really starting to look like yesterday's news. To sound a bit like the Editors, and a bit like The Departure and of course a bit like Interpol is knitting a very, very sticky cobweb.

Manchester's Cardinals are unfortunately caught in this rather embarrassing looking tangle with their debut double A side. It's not that All Talk is particularly bad - it's urgent, hooky, radio-friendly. All Messed Up virtually has Ian Curtis guesting. It's just that these songs reek of stale bread.

If there is a saving grace for The Cardinals, it's that they do sit on the epic rock side of the fence a wee bit more, which hopefully means we're not going to see a simple rehash of the same songs as the Editors criminally seem to get away with. Like I said, messy.
