It seems pop has done something to deserve reward this month, as another credible starlet emerges from obscurity.

Carina Round is somewhere between Bjork and Amy Studt, not being as edgy or eccentric as the former whilst remaining far more convincing than the latter. Lacuna is your typical heartache piece, set apart by some interesting instrumentals (including jazz style piano and brass), good use of dynamics and a sterling and versatile vocal performance from Ms. Round.

The reputation of her live shows precedes her, and this single goes a long way to showing why. Who knows, perhaps she will be the next big thing. The song is certainly endearing enough.
