South London's Cassius Henry is slowly but surely taking the UK by storm. Debut single Broke charted inside the top 30, a respectable effort for a track that lacked heavyweight promotion. Teaming up with Rocafella records' Freeway and Kanye West on the remix The One is the one that will put Cassius' name in lights.
The song has a heavy beat showing the quality of production and the vocals simply compliment it. With Freeway introducing the track Me And Cassius Killing The Clubs, R&B infused singing leads into the low-key chorus and second verse. It's gruff and grimy yet the sexual undertones The One evokes are decidedly smooth.
Of course the remix with Kanye steps things up another level with a clear American feel. It's not the direction of Dizzee Rascal and the rest of the Eastenders who stick to a distinct British style, but it's the recipe for mainstream success.
