The search for an emerging artist with a genuinely fresh sound from America's Dirrty South is becoming harder than finding that needle in the haystack. If you're lucky you'll prick your finger rummaging through another bail of hay (if you're still bothered about that needle), or you'll tune your radio into a station beaming Chamillionaire's debut single.

Ridin' is everything that the South has been lacking, or possibly it's because Lil' John's nowhere in sight. Instead we have a West Coast meets South hybrid, with a pounding but clean and rhythmic bassline paralleling on-point rapping echoing The Game albeit with slightly lower aggression levels. There's even a public outing for Krayzie Bone emerging from a hibernation probably not inflicted by Blazin' Squad's manslaughter of Bone Thugs 'N' Harmony's signature track Crossroads.

It might be the lyrics' resonance with today's Pimp My Ride car and police stop and search policies that explains Ridin's expected success. The track is a perfect replication of perceptions from the mainly young male drivers "targeted" by police and it's destined to be blared from car stereos in a car park near you.
