Chemists. They do experiments and make medicines and things, right? Though experimenting with medicinal strength dosages of Soundgarden and Queens Of The Stone Age should carry with it a health warning, The Chemists press on undeterred, which is a good thing, because the resulting Radio Booth is a good medicine. Like Calpol.
That energetic, visceral vocalist Johnny Benn sounds a dead-ringer for Chris Cornell bolsters the Soundgarden references, while ferocious guitars bare their fucking great big blood-stained teeth at a chorus that is instantly catchy, fast-paced, and equipped to brutally dictate the minds of anyone within earshot.
Pleasurable though the chorus may be, the verse is a little flat. The structure is poptastic, making The Chemists wholly accessible. The production is suspiciously brilliant, which adds to my worries that The Chemists are like a demonic, turbo-charged pop band out for a fast buck. 2009's debut album will answer all questions, but for now you could do far worse than be bowled over by the bollock-crunchingly huge chorus of Radio Booth.
