Ah, those were the days. Remember the barber pole? That untrained bloke hacking at away at your hair asking about your holidays while you read the sports pages to stop yourself looking straight into your own eyes in the mirror? The smell of the spray and the hair wax, and the feel of unswept hair under the soles your shoes as you make your way to the till to pay for what some might describe as a trim, but which you regard as a form of violation. And then the question. Something for the weekend sir?

Hmmm how to answer? Wouldn't want to look like a complete loser, so better say yes. And anyway, what's wrong with being an optimist? Off home then, with the wind slightly closer to your scalp than it was twenty minutes ago, to store your new purchase alongside all the other optimistic something for the weekends you've bought over the years.

Ah Something For The Weekend, that title certainly conjures up some strong images. Which is more than can be said for The Chemists (they really should have considered being called The Barbers) who fail to create any kind of impression whatsoever. I'm sure that this is supposed to sound big and epic, but this is just bluster disguised as emotion and as such it barely registers.

This is the musical equivalent of Rohyponol - it makes you fall asleep in seconds and you feel dirty once you've regained consciousness. If you see someone who's just been to the barber's and has a copy of this single in their collection, you may want to think twice before accepting a drink from them.
