Aficionados of the macabre will know that "Children Of Bodom" refers to Finland's most infamous murder case where three teenagers were stabbed to death on a camping trip to Lake Bodom back in 1960. The crime has never been solved but when the fourth member of that camping trip was arrested last year, the band who took their name from this cause célèbre suddenly received a whole load of unexpected media attention outside their homeland.

Does this explain why, after five albums, Children Of Bodom are getting a single release in the UK? Either that or because the inexorable rise of HIM means that Finnish rock is flavour of the month. However, for once we have something to thank Ville Valo and his anonymous chums for. Children Of Bodom deserve to be heard, although there's about as much chance of them being played on the radio as there is of Sven-Goran Eriksson winning a "spot the fake sheikh" contest.

In Your Face is self-descriptive - an assault of heavy, jagged riffs, double-speed thrash metal and hostile vocals. What separates Children Of Bodom from many of their hate-filled contemporaries, however, is a musical groove that betrays a love of Pantera as much as it does Scandinavian Black Metal. And we didn't even mention the tinkling, progressive rock-tinged keyboards. Children Of Bodom? A killer band, you might say.
