For anyone who attended the Cinematic Orchestra's triumphant Barbican concert on May, this will be a mandatory purchase

Their most recent album Ma Fleur may have moved them at times a little closer to the mainstream, but this is a timely reminder of their ability to appeal to both the chillout crowd and those who hanker after more intense, improvisatory material

This is found in the wonderful sax work from Tom Chant in the Man With A Movie Camera and the Channel 1 Suite, forming parts three and four of this EP. First up is the vocalist Eska Mtungwazi, who lends her beguiling vocals to a hushed accompaniment. Jason Swinscoe's arrangements are vivid and colourful, lending the already familiar material extra life.

An ideal accompaniment to the album, then - and if you weren't lucky enough to be at the Barbican, it's worth noting Swinscoe and his band have bagged the Albert Hall in November. On this evidence it's a concert that should not be missed.
