A tale of two halves, here. Whereas Come into the darkness is all fuzzy guitars and little content, The Mind Is Evil is something else.

Without wishing to compare, it is impossible not to hear Nick Cave at his dark best, both in the lyrics and the voice. The string section is what makes the song. Long dark, sweeping, augmented sounds concentrate the mind solely on the music at hand. Along with the lyrics, it grabs you in the same way that a David Lynch production does, in some unfathomable way that you never fully understand, and probably never will.

With Jarvis Cocker amongst others a confessed fan, Clearlake have a sunny future.
