Perhaps my memory is going a tad faulty in my dotage, but I am convinced
of a time when I saw a feature about Clinic in the pages of the late,
great Melody Maker magazine.
I remember looking at these people dressed in hospital scrubs and thinking,
"what an odd bunch" as I perused the magazine looking for pictures of Sarah
Cracknell of Saint Etienne.
The Liverpool quartet are back with the haunting Harvest,
which sounds suspiciously like a Slipknot song title, but fear not, dear
reader, for this is something much, much better. Unapologetically surreal
and unceasingly dark, Harvest is notable for Ade Blackburn’s moaning vocal
over a relentless drum beat, with a keyboard refrain that holds for an age,
never seeming to let up and give your nerves a chance to settle. All in all,
rather eerie. And all in all, rather good.
