The American MySpace sensation finally makes it over to these shores with a UK release for her sleeper hit from last year.

This simple acoustic pop song has been a hit all over the world, so it is mystifying why it has taken quite so long to gain an official release in the UK. Perhaps it's our lack of sunshine, because Bubbly is tailor-made for long summer days and balmy nights. Quite like the ones you get in Caillat's native California, and when it's hammering it down in London in the middle of July the listener does not feel as predisposed to the song's sunny pop charms.

Ironically, a brief scan of the lyrics reveals the song to be about hiding away from the rain and staying in bed with a loved one. In fact, Bubbly could rival Rachel Stevens' Some Girls for sexual innuendo, although, being a good American girl, Caillat manages to disguise the smut by coy references to "tingles in a silly place" and "It starts in my toes/Makes me crinkle my nose".

Typically, Caillat's record label is choosing to release Bubbly just when the English summer is finally sputtering to a close. Maybe they are hoping it will brighten up the winter.
