The Cold War Kids are hot property in 2007. Slow to catch on initially, despite rave reviews of their album Robbers & Cowards, they can now be found on many a festival billing or radio playlist. Hang Me Up To Dry, re-released as a single, is a perfect example of their signature sound.
An unexpectedly groovy bass line takes the lead, chugging along but with an assured roughness - good to see no smoothing of the production here. This prepares the way for Nathan Willett's vocal, a kind of strangled yelp as the chorus exerts itself.
Don't be put off by that description though, as it's part of the raw framework within which the Cold War Kids operate. Direct communication is the order of their day - and Hang Me Up To Dry is the finest example of this.
