Computerman - No More Broken Hearts (Must Destroy)
UK release date: 5 December 2005
From the label that has brought us the likes of The Darkness and Do Me Bad Things, comes a far more generic proposition in the shape of Leicester via Nottingham quintet Computerman. Their name gives it away slightly - this is accessible, hook filled, potentially stadium filling, 80's electro pop, of the precise nature which has been re-popularised by a disproportionately large number of bands in 2005.
But whilst No More Broken Hearts may be a little on the derivative side, and may stick to the verse-mega chorus structure a little too religiously, it more than makes up for this in terms of its decidedly widescreen scope and sheer catchiness.
With impassioned vocals that recall the angst of early Manics, a series of crushing guitar riffs all combined with some aurally pleasing keyboard sounds, this is first rate indie - up there, in fact, with anything Messrs Flowers or Endicott have ever mustered. If their album, out next year, is as good as this, expect Computerman to skyrocket. Until their ska punk roots are revealed, of course...
