The 2006 edition of the annual musical merriment bonanza that is Jools
Holland's Hootenanny saw him talk about Corinne Bailey Rae. I say talk
about, what I mean is obsess over, close to anyway. He tipped her hotly,
scaldingly for 2006, and I'm no man to question that man's judgment.
Put Your Records On is lazy Sunday afternoon music if ever I heard it.
Down-tempo, soulful acoustica which swells to a brass infused, feel good
chorus. It's addictive, catchy, and radio friendly and it deserves its
airtime.
He's right you know. She's pretty good. And what a voice, comparable to
Amy Winehouse in that she has
the same dazzling vocal range, but whilst the shrill Winehouse at times
sounds like she's singing through a trumpet, Corinne Bailey Rae sounds like
she's singing through honey. Sweet and smooth. Nice stuff.
