Cornershop - Lessons Learned... (Wiiija)
UK release date: March 4 2002
Cornershop - Lessons Learned From Rocky I to Rocky III
Cornershop, formed by Tjinder Singh and Ben Ayers, release their first single in ages.

Lessons Learned From Rocky I to Rocky III is a simple, three chord guitar bash calling to mind T-Rex, The Rolling Stones - or, better still, early Oasis. Which is handy, as the original Oasis bass player Paul McGuigan has now joined the band.

For a band whose claim to fame has to a large extent been the smash hit Brimful of Asha, such comparisons might be surprising, but this is rock, definitely not world, music. Backing track Returning From the Wreckage sounds a little more ethnic in texture, with atmospheric strings offsetting Singh's vocals nicely, while various remixes of the main track feature on CD2. All in, a pleasant welcome to Spring.
