He may be the latest loud mouth front man on the scene, but it's a pleasant surprise that The Courteeners' Liam Fray actually has a sweet and tuneful singing style.

This pleasant, mid-tempo tune should help the Mancunian band dodge the tedious geographical comparisons - because while there is a definite hint of the Manc in this track, it sounds like a band who have outgrown their parkas and realised that a good melody holds a lot more weight than the same old Oasis pastiche that so many little bands have been trying to make it with over the past decade and a half. The Courteeners don't need the Gallagher-esque reputation - with a tune like this, they can hold their own.

For all its surprising goodness, though, this track doesn't quite sound like a smash hit but it sounds like the work of a songwriter who will definitely be writing a few in the not so distant future. Which makes the release of their debut album next month a rather exciting prospect.
