While the likes of the Kaiser Chiefs and Pigeon Detectives may lead the charge of 'New Yorkshire' from Leeds, the less glamourous neighbouring town of Wakefield plays host to a band better than either of them.
Taken from the Jarman brothers third and best album, Moving Pictures swaggers around with delicious insouciancy, boasting a great big dirty guitar riff, instantly memorable chorus and that trademark Cribs cry of "oh-oh-oh". Alex Kapranos is the perfect producer for them, smoothing out their sound without any danger of becoming bland.
The only criticism is that the album from which its taken from, Men's Needs, Woman's Needs, Whatever actually has much better tracks waiting to be released as a single. If Our Bovine Public or I'm A Realist were released, they'd be stepping up to superstar status. As it is, they'll probably remain adored by a select few. And to be honest, I think I prefer it that way...
