Computers are not rock 'n' roll. They are dull. Sampling is not hard. It is piss easy. Move the mouse. Cut.. Find the cell. Copy. So in theory every accountant with a decent record collection and opposable thumbs should be making music like Cut Copy. Sadly, most accountants make dire dance music that would probably have apes biting off their whole hands in protest.
And so, for now, Cut Copy are quite spectacularly unique in doing what five thousand indie dance remixes have failed to do: taking the best bits from good tunes and making them better. Or the worst bits. There really is no way of knowing.
Somehow, over all the looping and bleeping, they sing with the sort of bleak yet life-affirming monotone that has made New Order a favourite zip file for bedroom DJs. If there was ever a reason not to buy a Bloc Party remix album, this is it.
