Oh Girl is frankly a terrifying single. Not because it's a tale about some hideous crime being visited upon said girl (can you believe a band named Cut Off Your Hands would write a nice song entitled Oh Girl? Me neither), no, it is terrifying because it shows how resolutely middle of the road new 'indie' music has become.
Somehow claiming to be punk pop, Cut Off Your Hands are about as punk as sock garters. If you can, imagine a more insipid Razorlight; I know it's unpleasant but try. If you've managed that then you're in the right kind of area. If you're finding that particular visualisation difficult, think of a shit Squeeze (shit being an adjective there not a noun). Still no good? How about castrated Clash camply playing Rock the Kaszbah on a xylophone? There ya go, bad isn't it?
There is a lot of talk about the state of our youth these days and frankly having heard this I'm starting to worry about them too if this is the kind of tepid pointless swill they're listening too. Cut Off Your Hands, please, please Cut Off Your Hands so we never have to hear your pointless punk pop ever again.
