Cyann & Ben take the majestic instrumentation of Mogwai and Sigur Ros and distil it into a unique ambience that provides an epic backdrop to their aching vocals. Coming off their new Sunny Morning EP, this title track is a voyage from textured darkness to revelatory light, the music emerging as elegantly and intensely as a butterfly from its chrysalis.
Guest vocalist Greg Weeks of Espers sounds like he's at the bottom of a wondrously labyrinthine cavern being drawn ever further towards a distant light as guitars build and groan in languorous yearning, reminding you that when this kind of ambition is pulled off, it isn't half worth it.
Sunny Morning is an epic monument of subtlety to suitably inspire anyone inclined toward the more bucolic end of post rock, its mysterious French creators well on their way to paving a new landscape of palpable aural beauty.
