Damian 'Jr. Gong' Marley - The Master Has Come Back (MCA)
UK release date: 12 December 2005
Lets face it, the dice are loaded. We've all seen them. An endless processions of Julians, Dweezils, Rolands, even Enriques and Jeffs. When rock star kids aren't trying to emulate dear old Daddy, they're deb-slumming with Paris Hilton, or storming the House of Commons for the laudable right to slaughter a few rodents.
So when Bob Marley's youngest nipper decided to dip a dreadlock or two into the spotlight, we can all be forgiven for stifling a yawn or three. Elder bro' Ziggy had long since dulled our sensibilities with his auto-Marley reggae, but blow me if young Damian has turned over all expectations by filing some completely listenable tune-age.
The Master Has Come Back (obviously intended for his pooch) is evidence that Bob may cast a long shadow, but a helping of concentrated modernity can sweep away all the comparisons. Not as great a declaration of independence as Enrique's Hero, but ladies and germs, what is? I mean, really? I mean, come on...
