Anyone familiar with Daniel Bedingfield's monster club - and chart - smash Gotta Get Thru This will either be amazed or perplexed by this release. Amazed that he has such a range of musical styles at his undoubtedly talented disposal, but perplexed that saccharine balladry is what he wants to do with that talent.
If You're Not The One shows Bedingfield's mettle as a songwriter with the potential to earn a great deal scribing tunes for the likes of Whitney Houston or, ye gods help us, Celine Dion.
But as slushy ballads go, the boy's done good, and the tune's not bad either. Just don't think you'll be dancing to it. More a case of saying to yourself: "I gotta get thru this."
