A lush piece of electronica-influenced dance, this collaboration between Dannii Minogue and German Dance-guru Jean Claude Ades (JCA) is the latest and best single to be released from the forthcoming Dannii album, Neon Nights. Written by JCA and Dacia Olafk (with additional lyrics by Dannii), it is an infectious toon, driven by production sharp enough to penetrate the UK Top Five.
This release has been called Dannii's Can't Get You Out of My Head. Perhaps so, in terms of the its effect on her career. However I Begin to Wonder doesn't reach the heady heights of Dannii's big-sister's biggest hit. The uninspiring melody in the verse is mainly driven by production - a muted striding electro-bass line and some heavy vocal effects. But it all perks up around the chorus, as Dannii's singing takes to the air and Jean Claude opens up the filters on her voice and the bass. Few dance floors will be empty by the time the hypnotising chorus is halfway through.
So congratulations are in order for the Danster and her canny choice of collaborator. This simple but energetic single should promote the little sister from dance-diva to mainstream pop-princess. 2003 could well be Dannii's year.
