Does the world really need another bunch of new-wave post-punk urchins? Is This It came out six years ago, for Christ's sake! Everyone's already nicked all of Wire's riffs! You're too late!
There's nothing wrong with Dartz as such, they just sound too much like a load of other better bands. Debut album This Is My Ship has a couple of standouts (storming previous singles Once! Twice! Again! and St Petersburg)that suggest they're more than mere copyists, but little to recommend it beyond that.
This limited edition 10" vinyl EP features two album tracks and two new B-sides. Fantastic Apparatus starts well with a catchy riff and crashing drums, before descending into nothingness just at the point the chorus should kick in. Cold Holidays features some excellent skewed, almost-out-of-tune guitar work, but suffers from not having much of a tune. The other two are much the same.
Herein lies Dartz's problem. Being derivative is fine when you have the songs to pull it off. They don't.
