After their initial burst onto the scene with St. Petersburg, angular pop trio Dartz are back with more spiky guitar hooks and some disco flavour on new single Once, Twice Again. With a debut album just around the corner the skies are starting to look bright for Dartz.
Because of the geographical proximity, Dartz are going to inevitably suffer from a fair few Futureheads comparisons. However, the similarities pretty much end with the accents. Having been surrounded by their fair share of media hype, on listening to their new single I can start to understand why. Dartz represent a compelling amalgamation of styles. To my uncultured ear i can detect a slight Postal Service influence maybe even verging on Explosions In The Sky, but thrown into the home grown, British Indie, mixing bowl.
Once, Twice Again revs itself up with a disco-dancefloor drumbeat intro before a sharp guitar riff begins to embed itself into your subconscious. The lyrics and vocal line are curiously uplifting and perfectly pitched, and continue what can only be described as the post-hardcore/indie atmosphere that permeates this record. With their first album This is My Ship due out in February, it will be interesting to see which direction this band favours, but as it stands all signs are good.
