David Ford's Go to Hell is an oxymoron, merging classical and uplifting strings with his heartbreaking message of the loss of love. The song sounds so sunny, but it tells the heart-wrenching tale of two people parting company, in what seems to be a pretty turbulent manner that may have left the best crockery in pieces.
It's a catchy number, which would probably be a bit run of the mill if it weren't for the string arrangement. Ford's vocals are pleasing, with a twang of folk and a soft tone reminiscent of Ben Parker or Seth Lakeman without the West Country.
The single is powerful and a snappy 3.27 long, but the percussion doesn't quite fit with what the rest of the song is doing. However, the strings really do bring something a little different to the modern pop song and they are played and produced beautifully.
Whichever girl made Ford write this, it was probably for the best.
