David Holmes has covered pretty much everything from punk to techno to ambient to big Hollywood soundtracks. Now it appears that his ability to turn his hand to anything has found fertile new ground in a note-for-note replication of the work of The Jesus and Mary Chain.

There's really no need to describe what it sounds like in any detail: just go and put on a JAMC album and you're right there. Even the vocals sound identical to Jim Reid's - but, curiously, are Holmes' own. The most evident sign of the David Holmes of old is a squelchy electronic instrumental section about halfway through.

Otherwise, the only departures from JAMC land are some truly rotten lyrics direct from the Coldplay/Keane academy of dull platitudes. "I see your face when I close my eyes...I've nothing left to hide...My arms are open but my soul is tired," and so on.

Who knows what his forthcoming album will throw up? A tenner says it'll be meticulously accurate but lyrically risible karaoke versions of Echo and The Bunnymen, Spacemen 3 and My Bloody Valentine.
