Known for their smooth, highly produced pop songs in the '80s, 21 years on Deacon Blue are releasing a greatest hits album with three new songs, and readying themselves to go on tour again.
This new single, Bigger Than Dynamite, won't disappoint their fans. It is quintessential Deacon Blue (ie. it sounds like third-rate Prefab Sprout), softly sung, with whispery backing vocals and repressed instrumentation.
Ironically for a song that is about the hugeness of love, the idea is expressed with something less than enthusiasm. The passing years clearly haven't withered them; in fact they have left no trace of musical influence at all. A seamless recreation of their old sound, for better or for worse.
