This is the latest release from US cult band's latest album Plans. Don't be put off by the name, though: they're more of an indie outfit, but have recently become better known for their quiet acoustic numbers.
This track is a perfect example, with its solitary singer and guitar theme. The whole thing has a tender and sensitive yet sorrowful feel to it - not entirely surprising as the reference to following into the dark is about death. There's a depth and feeling to it that is a world away from the summery fluff that usually appears at this time of year.
There was a distinct chance that this could have ended up being so wrist-slittingly morose it could only bear one listen. However, the tear-filled melancholic feel is countered by the beauty of the lyrics and the basic message that, even at the end, if you're with the person you love then even that would be endurable. You'll probably cry when you hear this, but you'll still play it again and it's well worth the money - though you're unlikely to see it bothering the top 20.
