Death Cab For Cutie's latest, The Sound Of Settling, is a riotously jaunty slice of summer pop perfection.
Yet on first listen I was flummoxed by the lyrics "twisting my stomach into nuts". Interesting, I thought, before realising the (obvious) error of my ways. Well, part of their charm lies in that twee trans-Atlantic twang.
From the pared-down instrumentation and rattling percussion to the bouncy melodies, this is a feel-good tune bar none. If this is the sound of settling then I'm convinced. Buy it: be jolly.
