Hampshire's Delays (no definite articles here please!) have been steadily building up quite a buzz with their jangly, harmony-driven retro pop and Long Time Coming is a fine addition to their canon.
It sounds like a plea to a former mentor to get their act together ("How could you grow old, you were my triumph," the chorus muses), with a smattering of surreal lyrics about throwing Lego into the river. Yet lead singer Greg Gilbert could sing the phone book and make it sound meaningful so the lyrics need hardly matter here.
This isn't quite as close to pop perfection as their debut single Nearer To Heaven, but it's still a fine example of why Delays should be a lot better known than they are at the moment.
