The Delilahs are an all girl trio (guitar/drums/bass) from Zug in
Switzerland. This single is their debut release, and comes on the back of a
string of successful live dates in London. On their website they talk the
talk, and sound pretty pretentious, so does This Is It deliver?
This Is It has a diesel chugging rhythm section, and a dirt cool guitar
line. Muriel Rhyner delivers the vocals in a spoken voice manner and seems
like she's trying to be the female Julian Casablancas. She thinks she's
cool. She's not. The lyrics themselves are hardly anything to behold: if
that Rhyner tells me "This is it" once more I'm gonna... perhaps she doesn't
know many English words?
It's not bad, it's not good. You'd expect it on a Levi's advert. As debut
releases go, though, this song catapults The Delilahs to a position whereby
you want to keep a close eye on them, like a toddler by a bonfire. They
could be very cool, and very sexy, This Is It hints at it. Let's hope we see
it on subsequent releases.
