As you might expect from a band that comprises members of The Bronx and Distillers, this is a single that kicks considerable ass. Although it's perhaps not the kind of thing you would expect from a pair of brothers born of a member of Los Lobos.
Anyway, 16, 16, Six represents a side of the band that calls upon the more melodic aspects of US Hardcore (we're thinking Husker Du). It's a fair step away from the sound of their current album, as the only real radio friendly single, but that's no bad thing: it is a very good thing indeed. It's muscular, and aggressive, as well as being a thoroughly sensitive little number. Starting off with a swaggering ska, it evolves into a thundering punk rock beast. Vocalist Matt Caughtran may have a voice that sounds like a rottweiler with a throat full of bees, but it’s also full of a cracked emotion when he’s bellowing lines like; "I got to tell you that I miss you voice, cause everything else I hear is a violent noise."
16, 16, Six, is a love song covered in nasty scars, but it also happens to be thoroughly uplifting. If you're currently broken hearted and sat in your room, this could be the record that gets you on your feet again and fills you full of new purpose.
