Drugdealer Cheerleader - I Don't Wanna Go To School (Pebble Beach)
UK release date: 18 September 2006
Taking their influences from the hair metal bands of LA (circa 1986) I Don’t Wanna Go To School benefits from sticking its fingers up at pretty much everyone and taking a huge swig from the obligatory bottle of JD. That said, this is not Glam on the level of cack glitter pussies Poison.
Nope, this is Glam with its make-up applied with a paint-roller and an arc welder. There’s little hint of polished production, androgyny and backcombed hair and just enough of an edge to the song to lend a little bit of punk bristle to proceedings. In fact, we can’t help but be reminded of Sloppy Seconds (a band we just so happen to love around these here parts) as the DDCL bang on about playing pool and chasing girls, which is no bad thing at all. Although you suspect if the band were caught chasing schoolgirls these days, the title of this song would probably be I Don’t Wanna Go To Prison.
I Don’t Wanna Go To School brushes past in a swirl of punky riffs, a haze of hair spray, and the unmistakeable pounding of hobnail boots. Yes it’s glam, yes it’s punk, and yes, we kind of like their ridiculous lyrics and basic guitars. We’re off to scratch their name into our pencil cases right now.
