Duke Special - Our Love Goes Deeper Than This (V2)

Duke Special has a lot in common with Neil Hannon, the diminutive
and fellow Northern Irish showman, and Our Love Goes Deeper Than This wouldn't
have been out of place on a middle-era Divine Comedy album with its
catchy (or even relentless) drive and strong whiff of melodrama.
And lo, here is the Hannon himself in a cameo role, injecting a
delightful reminder of just how good a voice he has. This is a brave
move by Duke Special, it has to be said, because when you hear the two
together I know which voice I'd rather have.
It does give the song added interest however. The video is a joy to
behold in its silent film send-up, but after the grand opening sweep
of strings there's a very plinkety-plonk repetitious feel to the
remainder. Mind you, that worked for Verdi and the anvil chorus...
Subtle as a brick, but good fun.
